The Next Generation of Cyber Security

Montreal, Canada – February 10, 2017 – Efficient Protection Inc. today announced that the company will change its name to StreamScan Inc. a cyber security solutions provider and security consulting company focused on network compromise detection and professional services.

The company was founded in December 2011 to address the major problems facing enterprises of all sizes, protecting intellectual property, customer data theft and the major disruption of critical services due to cyber-attacks.

The company’s flagship product, CDS (Compromise Detection System) is a sophisticated Data Breach Detection Solution that detects breaches and compromised devices by analyzing the network traffic without direct connection to the network devices. The CDS is primarily focused on detecting unknown malware and threats using a behavior-based approach (Machine Learning Methods, Techniques and Algorithms).

The company was formed by a team of PhDs and cyber security experts to develop a suite of products to optimally protect data, networks, circumvent intrusions, data breaches and other security threats.

Being able to detect malware that has compromised a network and send alerts to the security administer using our CDS, is another tool in the war against cyber criminals and a true game changer. Today security specialists consider 205 days as an average period to identify compromised systems in a network while our CDS reduces this period to minutes or hours” said Dr. Karim Ganame CEO and founder.

Ganame continued, “We have a team of cyber security experts with of wealth of industry experience that allows us to offer unparalleled consulting services from security testing, PCI compliance to threat intelligence and incident handling while providing an extremely high level of support for our CDS install base.”

StreamScan is present on 5 continents with clients ranging from fortune 1000 to state and local governments. The company continues to expand its global footprint and offers its products and services in multiple languages.

A new ransomware named Bad Rabbit is spreading

The authors of the ransomware Bad Rabbit seem to use a drive-by download attack to infect victims. Previously hacked websites have been injected with Javascript making them display a popup window asking the user to download an update for flash. If he clicks on download, an executable file is downloaded, which is the actual ransomware.

It seems that this ransomeware does not actually use EternalBlue, though it scans the network for open SMB shares. It also tries to grab credentials on the infected host by using Mimikatz.

At this point, several countries have been affected, mainly Russia and Ukraine, but also Bulgaria and Turkey.

Our recommendations :

1: User awareness is one of the most important measures to stay safe : do not click on popups asking you to upgrade some software even if it comes from a website you trust. Always download such updates directly from the publisher of the software.

2: Keep your systems updated and never use easy to guess passwords ( this ransomware has a set of hardcoded usernames and passwords).

CDS pre-selected as an innovation by the Canadian federal government (BCIP program)

We are proud to announce that our CDS technology has been pre-selected as an innovation by the Canadian federal government (BCIP program). The CDS will be used within a departmental or federal government system.

The CDS is a behavioral analysis tool that relies on Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to analyze network flows, continuously detect and eliminate known and unknown cyber threats and malicious tools. For example this behavioral analysis detected WannaCry, unlike most of the security tools of the market.

We are pleased to be a part of the most innovative Canadian companies and to contribute to the fight against cyber crime.
